About Us — Workday Vanity
Welcome to Workday Vanity.
We’re a beauty blog for women who want to look polished, put‑together, and like themselves — without spending an hour getting ready, without feeling pressured to look “flawless,” and without pretending that everything works perfectly under fluorescent office lighting.
We believe that pretty is lovely, but practical is better.
Our Story: Why Workday Vanity Exists
Workday Vanity started with a simple observation: most beauty content is created by people who don’t work in real offices, under real deadlines, with real budgets, in real lighting.
We wanted something different.
We wanted a place where a woman could find honest, wearable beauty advice that respects:
Her time (because mornings are busy)
Her budget (because not everyone wants to spend $50 on a mascara)
Her face (because she doesn’t need to look like anyone else)
So we built that place.
Meet Our Founder: Lucy Fairmont
Lucy’s Background
Lucy Fairmont is 31 and lives in Richmond, Virginia. She spent six years as a department‑store beauty advisor working across prestige and mid‑range makeup counters. During those years, she shade‑matched hundreds of women, troubleshooted countless foundation problems, and built routines for women who had one thing in common: they didn’t want to look like they were wearing makeup for a photo shoot — they wanted to look good for Tuesday.
Now she works as a client services coordinator at a mid‑sized interior design firm. That means she actually lives the workday reality she writes about: commutes, fluorescent lighting, coffee breaks, dry office air, Zoom calls, and long hours.
What Lucy Brings to Every Post
Lucy’s voice is calm, reassuring, and quietly opinionated. She is not anti‑beauty, but she is firmly anti‑performance. If a product only works under ring lights, she doesn’t count it as good. Her credibility comes from:
Hands‑on retail experience across both affordable and prestige brands
Real‑world testing in actual office environments, not just vanity setups
Practical wear‑testing — evaluating products from 8:15 a.m. to 5:40 p.m., in office light, dry air, and rushed mornings
Her signature phrase?
“Pretty is lovely. Practical is better.”
She also keeps a small notebook of things that looked good at 8:15 a.m. and still looked human at 5:40 p.m. — that notebook is the soul of this blog.
What We Believe
Makeup Should Work for You, Not Against You
We don’t believe in appearance anxiety. We don’t believe that you need to look “effortless” every single day. We believe that a 7‑minute face that makes you look awake and polished for a client meeting is worth more than a 45‑minute routine that only works on camera.
Expensive Isn’t the Same as Elegant
We’ve seen too many products that cost $50 and fade by noon — and drugstore gems that hold up all day. We will always tell you where your money matters and where it doesn’t.
If It Only Works Under Perfect Lighting, It Doesn’t Really Work
Office lighting is unforgiving. Commutes are sweaty. Coffee spills. We test products the way you actually wear them — and we tell you the truth about what survives.
Our Editorial Philosophy
We’ve built our editorial principles around one simple idea: readers deserve honest, practical advice with no performance tricks.
Here’s what that means in practice:
We respect your budget. We recommend products across price ranges and will always tell you when drugstore is the smarter buy.
We respect your time. Our routines are designed for real mornings — 5 minutes, 7 minutes, maybe 10 when you have a big meeting.
We respect your face. We will never exaggerate results, use deceptive filters, or create beauty pressure you didn’t ask for.
We respect your schedule. We test products through full workdays, not just first application. What a product looks like by 5 p.m. matters more than what it looked like at 8:10 a.m.
What You’ll Find on Workday Vanity
We organize our content into four core categories, each designed to serve a different part of your workday beauty life.
1. Desk Face
Fast, polished makeup routines for real workdays.
This category covers 5‑minute faces, Zoom‑call touchups, commute‑proof base makeup, and products that don’t require perfect technique. Whether you’re rushing out the door for an early meeting or want to look put‑together for a video call, Desk Face has you covered.
2. Counter Notes
Product reviews from Lucy’s former beauty‑counter lens.
Counter Notes is where we answer the questions you’ve always wondered about:
Is this product actually worth the price, or is it just expensive?
Who does this suit — and who should skip it?
When is drugstore the smarter buy, and when should you splurge?
These reviews come from Lucy’s years of hands‑on retail experience, combined with real‑world office testing.
3. Wear Until Five
Long‑wear testing, office‑light testing, commute testing, and honest reality checks.
This is where we put products to the test. Cream blushes, setting sprays, skin tints, concealers — all tested through full workdays. We tell you what fades, what creases, what breaks down by 3 p.m., and what still looks decent when you’re heading out for after‑work dinner.
4. Soft Standards
Thoughtful essays on beauty pressure, realistic habits, and buying less.
Soft Standards is our space for bigger conversations: why you don’t need a “glow up” to deserve better makeup, why we don’t trust reviews shot only in car selfie lighting, and how to build a beauty routine that feels good instead of performative. It’s about quiet confidence and looking like yourself — at work, and everywhere else.
Our Voice: The Tone You’ll Hear in Every Post
We like to describe our voice as calm older‑sister practicality with soft taste.
Here’s what that means:
We Do:
Explain whether a product actually works in real workday conditions
Respect different budgets and comfort levels with makeup
Help you look more polished without looking overdone
Speak honestly, even when the answer is “this isn’t worth it”
We Don’t:
Create appearance anxiety
Push expensive products just because they feel aspirational
Use filters or fake lighting to exaggerate results
Shame you for looking tired, busy, or ordinary
Our Promise to You
We promise that every post on Workday Vanity is grounded in real experience and real testing. We promise to respect your time, your budget, and your face. We promise that if a product only works under a ring light, we’ll tell you — even if the brand sent it to us for free.
We promise that looking like yourself is always enough.
